This design really gets back to the roots of structural engineering, taking its cues from the natural environment – specifically, a many-branched tree. The concept is clearly seen in the finished product, but subtly functions like a real branch system, too, tapering toward the center to provide space at ‘ground level’ then branching back out into a top canopy. The top itself comes from a 200-year-old oak, and the branches below make an appearance as they come up through it before being cut off, flush with the surface.
